Carrying the theme “Build a Strong Network in Sustainable Palm Oil Business in Indragiri Hulu Regency”, the Indragiri Hulu Farmer’s Field Day event 2022 was officially opened by Mr. Paino as the Indragiri Hulu Regency Economic Assistant on behalf of Mrs. Regent Rezita Meylani Yopi, SE, followed by a short video which showing the achievements of Karya Serumpun. Located at the MM Belilas Hotel, Indragiri Hulu, this event aims to present the success achievements of Karya Serumpun Association members. Also, to gather and increase the support of stakeholders related to independent oil palm smallholders sustainable business.
On this event, the Indragiri Hulu Regency Economic Assistant, Mr. Paino, symbolically handed over the RSPO certificate to Karya Serumpun which is the first organization that successfully obtain RSPO certificate in Indragiri Hulu. Farmers representatives who are also the members of Karya Serumpun Association, explained the history of the organization’s establishment and the successful achievement of RSPO certification, which was obtained with the support of Unilever, a consumer goods company, and its partners through programs such as Sekolah Lapang Kelapa Sawit (Palm Oil Field School) which have helped farmers improve good agricultural practice in oil palm planting.
Farmer’s Field Day event is also an opportunity for stakeholders to express their opinions and provide feedback support needed for the sustainability of oil palm smallholders businesses. “I really appreciate the achievement of independent oil palm smallholders through the Karya Serumpun Association, this is an extraordinary achievement because the RSPO is an embodiment of the sustainable oil palm cultivation. By obtaining the RSPO certificate, its expected to be an example for other oil palm farmers in Indragiri Hulu Regency and its surroundings. Also, the RSPO clearly answers that agriculture in Indonesia, especially in Indragiri Hulu, is purely for improving the community’s economy and protecting the environment.” said Mr. Paino.
